Performance

The new Nissan Altima has two different engine options: a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 190 horsepower and a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder that produces 249 horsepower. With a 0-60 time of 7.6 seconds, the Altima lacks some pep drivers might want in their commuter car. The Altima has a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), which does help smooth out the ride. However, that lack of power indicates its decent fuel efficiency, which can get up to 39 miles per gallon on the highway.

The overall driving experience isn’t anything to write home about. It doesn’t feel very connected to the road; FWD is the only option, there is some play in the steering wheel, and it isn’t necessarily the most fun car to drive.

Exterior and Interior Design

Nissan designed the Altima to blend in, with a reverence for its surroundings. The result? It is an impressively bland car that blends into the sea of nothingness. No, it isn’t an unattractive car; it won’t go down in history as the ugliest car in the world, but it won’t be remembered as a classic. No one will congratulate you for driving an Altima. The front looks nice, with many lines and a prominent grille, LED headlights, a trunk, and two tail lights, but it lacks soul. There is very little in this car that makes it stand out.

Its interior is just as uninspired. It’s built well, with a push start button, an infotainment screen, and a small digital gauge cluster above the steering wheel, but nothing that screams ingenuity or excitement. It is a cubicle on wheels, made to be a rental car.

There is plenty of cargo space in the trunk and storage space in the doors, glove box, and center console, where you would expect it, and the interior is very roomy. The back row has lots of leg and headroom, and the seats are comfortable. Leather seats are an option for higher trim levels, but cloth seats come standard. But at the end of the day, practicality seems to be the leading design philosophy for the Altima.

Technology and Infotainment

Two different infotainment systems are available in the Altima: an 8-inch display screen on the S, SV, and SR trims and a 12.3-inch display on the SL and SR VC-Turbo trims. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available, and they play over the nine-speaker Bose premium sound system. A virtual personal assistant is available that responds to “Hello Nissan” and can carry out various tasks like changing music, adjusting temperature, and controlling your GPS.

There are several driver assistance and safety technology features of note in the Altima. ProPILOT Assist is Nissan’s driver assistance system that keeps the car in its lane and maintains a preset distance between the vehicle in front of yours. There is also a 360° camera equipped to help with parking. The Intelligent Forward Collision Warning is another excellent safety feature that monitors the cars in front to detect sudden stopping and warns you to slow down.

Trim Levels and Pricing

There are five different trim levels, each with its pros and cons. For the best value, we suggest going with the SL trim level. With the SL, you get a moonroof, a 12.3-inch display screen, and the nine-speaker Bose premium audio system.

The 2024 Nissan Altima is a great daily driver, offering a reliable, fuel-efficient midsize sedan perfect for commuting or road trips. It offers a large 12.3-inch infotainment screen, a great sound system, a roomy interior, and a wide array of safety features.

While other more luxurious midsize sedans are available today, the Altima is a great entry-level, reliable sedan with a reasonable price tag. While it has drawbacks, like the bleak design, timid engine, and unconnected driving experience, these will seem minor compared to all it offers at such a reasonable price.
